. Professor Russ Davis, the
twentieth recipient of the A.G. HUNTSMAN
Award, is one of the world's leading and
most versatile physical oceanographers.
His research interests are eclectic,
encompassing theoretical studies,
ship-board programs, instrument
development, and the adaptation and
application of new data analysis
techniques to oceanographic data sets. He
has made fundamental contributions to our
understanding of internal waves,
turbulence and mixing in the ocean. The
Vector Measuring Current Meter and the
Autonomous Lagrangian Circulation
Explorer float owe their development to
Dr. Davis. He has provided the framework
to interpret the data from his and
similar instruments through his seminal
work on Lagrangian velocity statistics
and their relationship to Eulerian
quantities and the transport of ocean
properties. He has been one of the
scientific leaders involved in the
planning and coordination of major
collaborative ocean research programs
both nationally and internationally. |
